LIVERPOOL HAVE MADE an improved offer totalling €129.3 million (£109m) for Bayer Leverkusen forward Florian Wirtz, the PA news agency understands.
It comes after the Premier League champions announced the signing of another Leverkusen player, Jeremie Frimpong, on what they described as a “long-term deal.”
The right back’s €35 million release clause was triggered and his successful medical meant the Netherlands international was unveiled today.

“It went quite easy. Liverpool came and said they had interest, and obviously for me it was a no-brainer,” he said.
“For me, it was like, ‘Whatever you guys do, just get this done’, [speaking to] my agents: ‘Just get this done’. Liverpool fans, I’m going to give my all, my energy, my work-rate and hopefully we can win together, we celebrate together, get everything together.
“I’m just excited to be here. Thank you guys for accepting me and I won’t let you guys down and I’ll give you the energy that you guys want.”
Frimpong may well be reunited with Wirtz after Liverpool’s second bid, which includes add-ons, would make him the most expensive signing in the club’s history if it is accepted by Leverkusen.
Wirtz was a star performer in Leverkusen’s domestic league and cup triumph in the 2023-24 season and also shone for Germany in last summer’s Euros.
The 22-year-old featured in 31 Bundesliga matches in the season just ended, scoring 10 goals.
The Reds are also close to signing another Leverkusen player, Jeremie Frimpong.
Liverpool are understood to have triggered a £30m release clause for the Netherlands international and will hold a medical for the player this week.
